Playing condition repairs- Inspection of the instrument, check pads, corks, keys are straightened, leveled, adjusted and lubricated as needed.
Complete re-pad- Replacing all pads, corks, felts on the instrument, key adjustments, swedging, and tone hole leveling. A complete overhaul will return the instrument to a “plays like new” condition. It won’t necessarily “look like new”.
Overhaul- This is perhaps the most often misused term in musical instrument repairs. Many people ask for an overhaul when they really just want the instrument put into playing condition. An overhaul includes all the work of a re-pad plus working on making the appearance look better. All keys are removed and polished to a high luster, wooden bodied instruments are polished and waxed on the outside and in the case of clarinets the bores are oiled as well. Metal piccolo and flute bodies are also polished. Saxophones are polished and if approved by the customer, may be sent out for re-lacquering that may take months to return. Overhauls leave the instrument looking and working like brand new.
